Making Europe more digital

European Commission VP Neelie Kroes’ Digital Agenda for Europe is making progress – check out this infographic video summarising the results in Europe.

However things are definitely not moving fast enough. Despite the crisis, the IT sector is still growing in Europe and it’s one of the few areas where there is still high demand for skilled staff, and open positions that can’t be filled. It’s particularly difficult for small businesses to get the IT talent they need. Hence VP Kroes, VP Tajani, Commissioner Andor and Commissioner Vassiliou launched the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs together in March this year.  Several key organisations – including European Schoolnet, where I work – committed pledges to address this issue. This next video gives you the background on the first pledges.

Since then many more pledges have been committed, and announced at the Digital Agenda Assembly held last month in Ireland. In autumn, a new network to support the pledges and continue to work together on this key issue for a further 2 years is expected to be launched. Worth keeping an eye how this develops!
